Meet Alex Summers
Alex, one of our Drama teachers is a theatre director specialising in new play development, actor training and theatre in education. He has trained with Guildhall, the Royal Exchange, the Old Vic, National Theatre Studio, Cheek by Jowl, Theatre Royal Haymarket, Finborough Theatre and has an MFA in Theatre Directing from Birkbeck, Univeristy of London.
Alex has directed youth theatre productions for leading theatres including the Theatre Royal Haymarket and Manchester’s Royal Exchange whilst working in schools, colleges and youth groups throughout London as a drama facilitator. Experience supporting students with visual impairment, learning difficulties and English as an additional language.
Directing includes Hunger for Trade (Manchester Royal Exchange), My Dutiful Laundrette (Tricycle Theatre), A Letter to England and Death of Long Pig (Finborough Theatre), The Man Outside and The Insect Play (Theatre Royal Haymarket, Youth Company), A Cautious Path (Tristan Bates Theatre).
As assistant director Billy Liar, All My Sons and Black Roses (Manchester Royal Exchange), Lower Ninth (Donmar at Trafalgar Studios), Huck (national tour & Southwark Playhouse), Uncertainty (Latitude Festival), Waiting for Godot (Theatre Royal Haymarket and national tour).
